Univar has sold its Mozel packaging business and facility in Columbia, Ill., to EMCO Chemical Distributors.
Mozel provides custom packaging and blending of chemical raw materials for the coatings, adhesives, sealants and plastics industries. It became part of Univar when the chemical distributor acquired Ellis & Everard in 2001.
Univar has integrated Mozel’s distribution business into its industrial chemical business over the past several years. The company says that its decision to sell the remaining Mozel packaging business is part of its strategy to focus on its core business, chemical distribution.
The acquisition allows EMCO to expand geographically and strategically combines two separate facilities with contract blending and packaging services to the same industries.
Under the new ownership, Mozel will keep its name.
On Purchasing’s Top 100 Chemical Distributors list for 2008 Univar, with $5.5 billion takes the top spot. EMCO Chemical Distributors, with $190 million, places at number 16.
