What's hot

Susan Avery, Information Technology Editor -- Purchasing, 5/17/2001

Once again analysts at Gartner have words of wisdom for technology purchasers—if you must cut your budget, look to everyday areas of your technology, says Kenneth McGee, VP and research fellow at Gartner Inc. "However, this is no time to slow or jeopardize e-business initiatives." McGee recently led a team of analysts that came up with ways to cut costs in IT procurement. Among them: Renegotiate terms and conditions for PCs. Managers should evaluate ways to reduce costs associated with use and support of PCs and should choose those that save the company money or improve its competitive advantage, advises McGee. PC price wars are intense right now, so IT buyers can negotiate better deals than ever before. They also can negotiate better terms for PC procurement, support and service by focusing on providing "high payback" core services for the staff to deliver. Good advice.
