Supply management industry expert, and friend, Dr. Larry Giunipero, professor of marketing and supply chain management at Florida State University, had a great article in the March 10th edition of the Wall Street Journal. Along with colleagues Robert Handfield and Douglas Johansen, Giunipero makes the case for the expanding roll of the supply-chain manager.

Globalization, outsourcing, financial analysis, and excellent internal and external communication skills are paramount in these positions. While those of us in the trenches already knew this, this long and explanatory article will go a long way in reaching many who may be unaware of the importance of effective supply chain management and supply chain managers.

Giunipero and team have helped us all with this article. My charge to you is to read it and share it with your management. I'll bet it will generate some solid discussion.
