The Bridge to CPSM Certification
June 16, 2008
I'm learning that several of my colleagues have successfully passed the ISM CPSM Bridge Exam. That is the exam that allows those holding C.P.M designations to gain CPSM certification. I've not yet signed up but probably will at some point. Peer pressure is a wonderful motivator.
Will you be taking the new ISM exam? What about certifications from other professional associations? I'm interested in your thoughts on the new ISM certification or any other certifications out there.
I see a value. Do you? Please use the COMMENTS tool here to provide your thoughts on it.

Is this CPSM the same as the SPSM that Next Level Purchasing has offered for a few years now?

Hi Richard, I am a purchasing agent for a medical device company in Rhode Island. I source suppliers for our complex components and qualify those components for use in our devices in NPD trials. Currently I am working towards the CPIM through APICS to further understand production manufacturing. This organization has a good grasp on this sector of manufacturing. I also plan to take the CPSM through ISM as well as network with other professionals in this organization to better understand best practices in the purchasing field. ISM does a fantastic job in cornering this sector. So in conclusion, I have joined both organization in the hopes that extensive knowledge and networking through both organizations will give me a broader view of purchasing, manufacturing and the supply chain environment. Best, Eric

Let's see. ISM discontinued their A.P.P. certification. Then they discontinued their C.P.M. certification. Now they want people to trust them with a new certification? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, then I must be some kind of imbecile. I have heard good things about APICS but I buy for a service industry, so I don't think they could help me.

Rich, after placing my trust in NAPM, then ISM with the C.P.M. line that it is the most recognized certification in the industry we must recognize another acronym? I see it as a reinvention that requires new certification fees and renewal fees unlike the lifetime certifications that we have all obtained so diligently. The boys in Tempe have been out in the sun too long. John
