New APICS Certification: Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Program
ISM requires a degree approved by the U S Department of Education
New APICS Certification: Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Program
June 11, 2007
Our customers in today’s marketplace expect high quality, low price, fast turn around, and on-time delivery. In distribution the key is service. Do not discount the other services; however our customers expect service, the right product at the right time. Many customers’ productions lines can be shut down if our service is poor.
To compete successfully, organizations must improve supply chain management performance. As a result, well trained, well educated supply chain professionals play an increasing important role in their organization. We, as supply chain leaders continue to promote certifications and membership in professional organizations. What is needed is the support of our employers in belonging to professional organizations, attending their meetings and working toward certification. Employees need financial support to do these things. Sales training has not slowed down in the sales arena; however support in the supply management field has decreased and sometimes not existed. In a couple of seminars the ISM-Dallas affiliate sponsored, we had 8 to 10 people attend from the same company. This is great and shows company support.
The APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) program is the first comprehensive educational program designed for operations and supply chain management professionals. To earn the CSCP designation, candidates must pass one comprehensive four hour exam with 175 questions. Details can be found at www.apics.ord/cscp
Because the CSCP covers advanced topics, a candidate must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent* plus 2 years of related business experience
- APICS CPIM, CFPIM, CIRM, OR C.P.M. designation plus two years of related business experience
- Five years of related business experience*
*for more info, visit www.apics.org/certification/cscp/guidelines
**Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree: APICS defines the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree as the level of study that would qualify an individual for a graduate program in the country where the undergraduate degree was earned
ISM requires a degree approved by the U S Department of Education
Many certification programs are offered in the supply management field and each individual would need to decide the best program for their career. Seek the support of your employer and take advantage of any opportunities offered thru your company. APICS is accepting the C.P.M. certification from The Institute for Supply Management as one of the qualifiers for their new CSCP certification. Many members of ISM are also members of APICS and are already seeking the new certification. Good luck to all that have decided to take this challenge.

Am currently preparing for CSCP. Interested in hearing from people who have taken and passed the exam. How much did you study? Too much, not enough, just right?
