Meet me in St. Louis at the 2007 Leadership Training Workshops
May 4, 2007
ISM offers a choice of three great cities and three different times for you to attend the leadership training workshops:
June 22-23, 2007 St. Louis, Mo
July 6-7, 2007 – Las Vegas, NV
July 20-21, 2007 – Baltimore, MD
If you hold a position on the board of one of the affiliates, this is a great opportunity to learn about ISM.This offers you an input on what you signed up for as a volunteer.
What you learn can be used more than with just ISM; it can be information that could benefit you in your work.Ask your boss to see if the company might fund your expenses.Registration information is on the http://www.ism.ws/, members only section, affiliate support, then to the leadership training workshops. You are not limited to any location, the choice is yours.Just a tip, bring along a bag to carry your books in.
ISM always plans for the first time attendees:Newcomers to the Leadership Training Workshop 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday is a great session.I might mention here that the same programs are presented at each workshop; however some of the speakers may change.
Session 1 on Friday breaks out in to sessions per the role you hold in the affiliate.
There are sessions for Presidents and Vice Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers,
Membership/Marketing, Education and Communications. These meetings are called the Necessities.
There are sessions that focus on membership reporting and affiliate bylaws, policies, procedures and job descriptions. Also one on developing and executing your affiliate marketing plan.
ISM-Dallas changed their name a couple of years ago. There is a session on Affiliate Name Change to ISM.Believe me, this is worth going to if you are even thinking about changing your affiliate name. After much discussion, Dallas decided to accept the change.I turned in a report, probably two pages at the most.Didn’t take them long to send it back to me with an outline of a plan. This really is a benefit to your affiliate because you actually set down with your board and do some real thinking and planning.
As an affiliate you probably have all of the information, you just don’t have it organized as it should be.
The workshops Turning Challenges into Opportunities, Time Management/Effective Meetings:A Practical Toolbox, Volunteer and Leadership Issues, Change Management, Teambuilding, are just a few that possibly could benefit you in your work even though they are geared to the affiliate. Many skills learned in ISM are not limited to ISM meetings only.
Another important event is the Affiliate Roundtables on Saturday 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Then you go to the networking lunch where the Affiliate Excellence Awards and the spirit awards are presented. This is an opportunity to show your affiliate spirit and win the award. How can your affiliate win this award? It’s easy, just have your team put their heads together to brainstorm clever ideas on how to meet and network with others.
Make an effort to meet the members.
I have attended many workshops and still I come away with something new and different.
As the world changes, so do the ways that we do things. This is your opportunity to network with ISM members.Look forward to seeing you in St. Louis.Wish I could go to all of them.
