Happy New Year

January 5, 2009

Well, if you are looking for a series of resolutions for 2009 you will be disappointed. But, I wanted to share a few random, yet interesting tidbits of news that came out during the netherworld time between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Here goes:

It was interesting to see that Hewlett Packard was in the news about selling printers to Iran through a third party. This is very much against the long time sanctions that have been in place since the Clinton administration. The Boston Globe reports that HP was aware that they were circumventing U.S. law.

The recently released ISM Report on Business showed an economy in turmoil. This index has increasingly risen in stature over the years and is considered a leading economic indicator. In fact, it has gotten so much stature that New York Times op-ed columnist and Nobel laureate Paul Krugman discussed it his his blog.

Finally, Intel’s Andy Grove says in a Business Week article about the lack of innovation in Silicon Valley. Innovation will be a major force to get us out of the economic mess we are in. Maybe those innovators are sitting out the recession by going back to school?

Well, maybe one resolution this year…stay current!
