I Still Dream of Jeannie
I’m glad to see that the long tail of the Internet, and TV Land, has brought this great 60’s show back to life. For those of you who get tired of chasing parts, you can visit HULU and watch some T.V. at your desk today. Ahem…just be sure the volume is down.
Which brings me to my supply chain-related point today. An exercise I use in many of my seminars and classes contains the metaphor of a genie. Imagine that you found a magic lamp and a genie appeared. Rather than Barbara Eden, it was a supply chain genie. (You can pick your own image at this point.) Anyway, this genie gives you one wish: “If you could select the trait of the perfect supplier, what would it be?”
Tough one, huh? I’d love to hear what you have to say. Leave a comment on the blog with your “Number one supplier trait”.
Laura Winger, Honeywell commented:
My genie would grant me a supplier with the utmost committment to
customer service and satisfaction. When suppliers and customers
have the desire to work together, it is much easier to get things
done. Additionally, as I saw when I was in distribution, having
really great customer service can bring more business. Who knew?
Marcin Zborowski, Philips Poland commented:
Indeed, it's been really tough for me. So many traits have come to
my mind. But it's genie so I need to choose only one wish: ALWAYS
FULL OF COST REDUCTION IDEAS
Charles Dominick, SPSM commented:
There's so much we all expect from our suppliers that it is hard to
distill it to one wish. So to overgeneralize, my response is... A
commitment to keep its promises
