Cyber Monday
Just when we think we’ve gotten past Black Friday, we have Cyber Monday, the day with the highest levels of online consumer shopping. The video of fist-fights at the mega marts are still fresh in my mind. I can only imagine the cyber fights that will be incurring if surfers step on the bandwidth of a fellow online shoppers. A virtual skirmish at Walmart.com?
Cyber Monday was actually a real thing. With office Internet connections faster than those at home, it was easy to slip into the office on the Monday after the big weekend sales to take advantage of the bargains. But, with bandwidth at home increasing and the cost of computers at an all time low, the office bazaar is needed less. But, with marketers never letting a marketing opportunity be lost, we have a new ’shopping day’ to celebrate, track, and anguish over.
I wonder if those cyber shoppers buying GPS systems, lambs wool sweaters, Sopranos DVDs, or new cell phones will also be placing orders with their real suppliers today? Funny, I hear from a lot of purchasing pros who buy consumer goods online all of the time but have no e-commerce presence in the office at all. Cyber Monday may allow them to save some of their personal disposable income come holiday time, but business-to-business e-commerce will save money for their company every day of the year.
