  • Overcoming Obstacles

    November 20, 2007

When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all of your thoughts break their bonds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person than you ever dreamed yourself to be. Those were the words of Indian Philosopher Patanjali.

Have you ever been given a task or taken on a task and all you can think about is how you are going to accomplish it? We used to think of this as having a one track mind; however now it seems like it is supposed to be a good thing (“task-driven”).

A friend of mine just got a job that she wanted very badly. It was in her field of health care. She has all of the necessary qualifications. She is wondering if she can handle the job. Can she do a good job? Can she do what they expect of her? She is out of the comfort zone. This is probably normal for most people changing positions. Our self confidence drops.

I tried to offer some words of encouragement, however I have never really changed jobs much, that is, as far as companies go. I would hate to say how many bosses I have had over the years. This is like a new beginning, a change. Have you ever seen a boss come in and not change anything? A boss that feels everything in the department is fine?

We can not walk away from something we want because we are not comfortable with a change. You must face the challenge and move forward. This is something I wish I had learned when I first started to work. I have seen people with handicaps that have overcome them and got what they wanted. If you were interviewed and hired, you must have shown great promise. Take one day at a time. You would not be walking in that door if you did not have the qualities the company was looking for.
