Companies cope with the high cost of gas
I received an e-mail today from one of my friends in The Institute for Supply Management, who was inquiring if my company had made any concessions to employees to offset the high price of gas and it got me thinking.
First, I went to the employee manual and did not find anything that really related to the gas situation. Of course, this is not surprising as this is a new issue to us.
But I wonder if companies will come up with plans or programs to help employees with the record-high gas prices?
I have noticed that we do not have near the people in the office that we did have as some are now working from home. Some friends of mine work extra hours and have every other Friday off to compensate for the gas situation. My next door neighbor has gone to a three day work week at 12 hours per day.
Some of the possible benefits would be:
1. Allow employees to work from home.
2. Provide flexible hours to work possibly four days a week
3. Offer Dart passes (free or at a discounted price)
4. Provide incentives (gas card, gift card) to employees participating in car pools
My friend states her company is looking for alternatives that may be helpful for employees. Do you think this will become an issue and a possible benefit that could be offered to new hires?
