Is Supply Management moving forward?
In the last 10 years, supply management has evolved from purchasing to procurement to supply chain management to supply management. Supply management leaders strive for us to be viewed as a profession, however we all realize that we are still struggling against being viewed as a vocation. But our world–and our supply chains–are changing fast. In the business environment today, supply management executives are facing more critical issues than ever before, more than they faced just a few years ago.
The tactical day to day activities are still around and must be handled, however supply management has moved also to strategic challenges that reflect our increased responsibilities that are required in our jobs today.
Our roles are largely determined by where we sit and the company we work for. In some companies, supply management has finally been recognized and considered a core part of the business.
Will supply management move to a seat on the board? Let me know your thoughts on the growth of our profession.

I would be interested to see if "Purchasing magazine" had this
information already from the survey results. Criteria such as
company size Fortune 500/1,000 or privately owned and ghow many
CPOs' sit on the board at these companies or have that title in
executive management. My experience is the purchasing falls under
"Operations" or in some instances "Finance". But separating from
these two covers are rare in my experience. Any dissenters out
there.. I hope?
