Post Olympics ….
August 28, 2008
Well, the Olympic Games are over and what a show it was! Now it is back to business.
In south China, business is booming in electronics, according to my electronics sales friends. There was no drop off in component demand needs during the Olympics. Component shortages are common and many buyers are turning to the open market. That’s good news for parts brokers, but there is the issue of counterfeit or substandard parts. “Buyer Beware” is a phrase that is heard a lot in China and buyers need to check out new suppliers carefully before buying from them
Currency is still a big issue here and around the world, where the reduced value of the U.S. dollar affects a lot of smaller suppliers.

Hi! Walter: I came across your blog while surfing the Internet. I
am the buyer for a company who imports natural stones like granites
and marbles from 35 different countries. I am the buyer for the
products out of China, Vietnam, S.Korea, Italy, Spain and Greece. I
can very well connect to what you had been mentioning in your blog
post. I had been to China thrice this year and country has been
changing dramatically. Our purchasing has been effected due to
dollar weakening, increase in fuel and other commodity cost and
Olympic games through certain extent. We are seeing a drop of 15%
in our purchasing this year from China and I agree China is moving
away from the low cost product-manufacturing hub. Well I will be
contributing to your blog quite often and I am glad that I have
found this blog to contribute my experience also.
