Editor's Note
Heading into 2009, companies are taking a new look at their MRO supply chains, says Peter Torrenti, regional vice president, Quadrem North America. From his vantage point, Torrenti has a truly global view of MRO purchasing and distribution. Quadrem hosts an online network of more than 55,000 suppliers and 1,100 buyers around the world.

As companies look for ways to cut costs and be competitive globally, Torrenti says a move toward business process outsourcing may accelerate in the new year, a trend identified by Purchasing. "There are companies that have challenged themselves to fix MRO and haven’t been successful. Now, lo and behold, we are operating in an economy where in the next 18-24 months they won’t be able to make the necessary investments. They may as well consider partnering to get it done." He’s talking about outsourcing activities purchasing may not have resources to handle, such as order tracking.

DIN connectors
Binder-USA has expanded its line of M16 field-attachable DIN connectors with a larger cable outlet size. The Series 423 M16 connectors are now available with a PG11 cable outlet for cable diameters from 8 to 10 mm. In addition, the Binder Series 423 line of cylindrical connectors also has a 4-6 mm and 6-8 mm option. All connectors are available with 7 to 24 gold-plated contacts. When properly mated, the mated pair is IP67-rated, applicable for areas with liquids and debris. An internal shielding ring provides excellent shielding against electromagnetic interference. The M16 connectors are fully mating-compatible with other Binder-USA M16 connectors, including front- and rear-mounted panel receptacles. Website: www.binder-usa.com

Swinghandle
DIRAK introduces a new 3-310 Swinghandle FS Offset-Duo-3. The swinghandle gear actuates a slider that controls the closing mechanism. This mechanism is offset from the main body of the swinghandle. There is wide rod-latch mechanism that would require additional space inside the door.

The new 3-310 swinghandle requires 30 mm of space between the door edge and gasket. Locking protection is through the use of a profile cylinder and can be configured for multiple latching points (2, 3 or 4 point latching).

For applications where the sensitive electronic equipment housed inside the enclosure needs to be protected from dust and water penetration, this new swinghandle satisfies IP65 requirements.

Rocker switch
Cherry Electrical Products introduces its new KR Series miniature, water-resistant rocker switch suited for applications in which the switch will be exposed to fluids, weather or other harsh conditions. The KR Series switch features a silicone rubber actuator and snap-fit mounting, making it IP65 compliant against dust and water. The switches use heavy-duty silver alloy contacts to achieve current ratings of 20 amps at 14 VDC and 16 amps at 125 VAC. The miniature switch fits an industry-standard panel cut out of 13mm x 19.8mm. Common applications include outdoor appliances, power equipment, commercial appliances and medical equipment.
